The destination is heaven country, we in our spirit can be glimpsed in the distance.
But Jesus is the pilot on board, and despite testing the high waves when the craft heavenly harbor.
Believers often likened mariners traveling across the sea of life, on the way to the heavenly harbor.
On the ship, there was formerly a lookout, a sailor who gazed out over the sea. He sat in a basket on top of the mast, fitted with a pair of binoculars with which he could see if the ship approached land. The mist and fog could often be difficult to see the outline of the country they were heading for.
We who have received Jesus is coming over the sea of life where storms often rage and the seas are rough. The destination is heaven country, we in our spirit can be glimpsed in the distance. But Jesus is the pilot on board, and despite testing the high waves when the craft heavenly harbor.
The Bible tells of people who looked forward to a better country than the earthly. In Hebrews. 11: 13-14, 16, we read about it: Verse 13:
"In faith all these died without receiving what was promised. They had just seen it in the distance, and believed in it and greeted it and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. "
These people were pilgrims who saw onwards and upwards - in the distance. They had seen the heavenly land in the distance, and confessed to the earthly country was not their homeland. Their interests were the heavenly, which loomed in the distance. But because they could die, they could not get to their longing goals. Verse 14:
"For those who say this shows that they are seeking a homeland."
That means they were looking for a different country, a better country than the one they came from. It can not mean any country other than a heavenly country, they were looking for. By his speech and his life's work had shown that they were strangers in this world. Verse 16:
"But now they desire a better country, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he hath prepared for them a city. "
The sky was prepared for all of God's saints before they were finished with their pilgrimage on earth. The God they chose to love and serve was their God.
Abraham was also waiting for a better country:
"For he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God" (Heb. 11:10).
In another translation reads:
"Because he was waiting expectantly and confidently."
Abraham walked to a celestial and eternal goals. He lived all his life in temporary settlements. He was willing to do so, as he waited for the city which has foundations. His inclination was to something permanent, unlike the nomadic life he lived, where he lived in his tent. He did not look forward to any earthly city, but one that God had built. Foundations of the earth are unstable and uncertain, but the city that Abraham was waiting for was built on solid foundations, which can never be shaken.
To the city, we are on the way, we have our citizenship in heaven. We look with longing and anticipation to the time when our Heavenly Ambassador, Jesus will come and pick us there.
